Scammers are Calling - Here's How to Stay Safe

We’ve seen a rise in fraud attempts targeting iQ members, and scammers are using some sneaky tactics. Your security is important to us, so we want to make sure you know how these scams work—and how to protect yourself.

What's going on?

Scammers have been contacting members while pretending to be from iQ’s fraud department or from law enforcement. These calls, texts, or emails often look and sound official.

What’s more, the scammer may already know your name or other personal details, which can make the message feel more believable. They’ll sound confident and may create a sense of urgency.

Then, they ask you to confirm just one or two more pieces of information - like a secure access code or your login credentials. That’s often all they need to fully access your account.

How the scam works

They might say your account has been compromised and then tell you not to log in or access your online banking for a few days while they “resolve the issue.” This is a red flag.

While they have access to your account, they may change your account’s contact information - like your phone number, email, username, or password. That allows them to lock you out and take control of your account without you realizing it.

Here’s the truth: iQ will never call, email, or text you asking for secure login details or verification codes. We also won’t ask you to avoid logging into your own account.

What you should do

If you get a message that seems suspicious or unusually urgent, hang up or stop replying. Then contact us directly at 800.247.4364 or stop by your local branch. We’ll verify if it was real, or if you avoided a scam.

To stay safe:

  • Don’t share personal information unless you’re sure who you’re talking to
  • Check your accounts often
  • Set alerts to keep you in the loop about account activity
  • Use strong, unique passwords

We've got your back

If you think you’ve been targeted or shared info by mistake, call us right away. We’ll help secure your account and guide you through what to do next.
