iQ Credit Union's New St. Johns Location Voted to Give $3,000 to
St. Johns Center for Opportunity

Vancouver, Wash.— The brand new iQ Credit Union location in Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood opened on May 13. To celebrate, the Credit Union asked its new neighbors to help it give away $5000 to three local charities.

“We determined three finalists,” said Danette LaChapelle, SVP Marketing. “Village Gardens, Portland Tennis & Education and St. Johns Center for Opportunity, all vital organizations in North Portland, rose to the top.”

  • Village Gardens organizes alongside youth and adult leaders of New Columbia to grow food, sell food, cook food and share food to build a healthy and thriving neighborhood.
  • Portland Tennis & Education (PT&E) exists to strengthen youth, inspire families and build communities that reach their potential, offering tuition-free, year-round programming that includes academic tutoring, STEAM activities and literacy support.
  • Johns Center for Opportunity (SJCO) strengthens North Portland neighborhoods through people-centered economic development and community building.

Area households found a “voting token” in their mailbox with an invitation to visit iQ Credit Union and vote for their favorite charity. After the two-week voting window, St. Johns Center for Opportunity received the most votes and a $3,000 check. The other two finalists each received $1,000.

“We go into a community committed to be a partner in their success,” added LaChapelle. “Giving back in this way is part of who we are as a company and serves as a launching pad for building strong community relationships.”
